National History Day is an annual educational program sponsored in New York by the New York State Historical Association. The program encourages students to explore and prepare a variety of projects (essays, web sites, plays) based on local, state or national history research they have conducted - all in the context of a theme. This year's competition, with the theme "The Individual in History" will be held regionally in (March), statewide in (May) & nationally in June of 2009.
Documentaries such as many of those produced by PBS are great examples of how the past informs, entertains, and inspires young people! History Day is an opportunity to build student interest in and support for both our historical records and the organizations in our communities that preserve them. Information about History Day in New York and around the country can be found at the New York State History Day web site.
