Technical Services Librarian

Responsible for the development and implementation of the Gallery Library's technical services program to include cataloging, classification, authority file maintenance, serials management, library systems and database administration, interlibrary loan and document delivery services, and basic preservation activities. Provides leadership in ensuring integrated access to scholarly resources in all formats according to professional standards and in a service-oriented manner in support of the research needs of the museum community. Establishes and assesses technical services goals, priorities, policies and procedures; Provides original and copy cataloging of research materials in a variety of formats and languages in accordance with national standards and local policies; Oversees library systems administration and database maintenance; manages interlibrary loan and document delivery operations; Participates in bindery, repair, and basic preservation activities; Provides reference and research services and participates in departmental and museum-wide initiatives as required

Requirements:

  • Master's degree (MLS or equivalent) from an ALA-accredited library studies program
  • Demonstrated experience and thorough knowledge of cataloging principles and practices, including AACR2, MARC, LC classification and subject headings
  • Experience with OCLC and integrated library systems, preferably with Ex Libris Voyager
  • Current awareness of new trends, metadata standards, and emerging technologies in cataloging and technical services, and their application in the library and museum environment
  • Familiarity with contemporary art is desired
  • Working knowledge of one or more foreign language desired, preferably French, German, Italian, or Spanish.
  • Strong organizational skills Ability to work independently with attention to detail.

Faculty Services and Reference Librarian

The University at Buffalo Libraries is seeking applicants for the position of Faculty Services and Reference Librarian in the Law Library.  This is a faculty appointment with rank leading to tenure in an academic research-oriented environment.

The Charles B. Sears Law Library, with a collection of close to 600,000 volumes and volume equivalents, serves the research needs of the University at Buffalo Law School, the University community, surrounding colleges, the local bar and bench, and the general public.  The University's Law School has approximately 700 JD and LL.M students and 50 full-time faculty members.  The position reports to the Director of the Law Library.

The incumbent provides expert reference services in all areas of law and interdisciplinary subjects to the Law School community, the University at Buffalo community, attorneys, and other patrons.  He/she plans and coordinates enhanced library services assisting Law School faculty with their research and teaching needs.  The incumbent participates in the faculty-librarian liaison program and develops and implements initiatives to introduce faculty to library services.  He/she trains Law School faculty research assistants in the efficient use of legal information resources. The incumbent teaches legal research in the first year research and writing program and upper class courses.  He/she participates in collection management, creates and updates legal bibliographies, and provides content for the Law Library's reference web pages.   The incumbent develops and implements Web 2.0 applications for library use.

Electronic Resources Librarian

The College of New Rochelle is seeking a dynamic, service-oriented individual to fill the position of Electronic Resources Librarian. This is a full-time, tenure track position, available immediately, reporting to the Dean of the Library.

Responsibilities include:

  • Coordination of campus-wide selection, acquisition, maintenance, access, and licensing of electronic information resources purchased or leased from publishers, aggregators, and other vendors.
  • Develop policies and procedures for managing of electronic resources; oversee licensing and compliance, tracking status, access/technology issues, database specifications, and statistical reports.
  • Responsible for implementing, updating and maintaining linking capabilities for electronic resources
  • Negotiate agreements with vendors, serve as point of contact concerning consortial agreements and represent the interests of all campuses.
  • Track developments of new and changing electronic services and resources; manage trial programs; analyze options for database access; and make recommendations for library staff.
  • Participate as a member of a team charged with evaluating user interface options
  • Share Reference Desk coverage and participate in the planning, implementation, and teaching of library instruction.
  • Create tutorials, research guides, and other learning and information tools, in both print and Web-based formats
  •  Serve as Liaison to College departments and/or schools providing orientation and instruction to students, faculty and staff with efforts directed to digital resources.
  • Participation in College governance bodies and professional development activities.
  •  Supervise Library's print periodical collection (Innovative Interfaces Inc. Serials Module)
  • Supervision of one full time assistant.

Required Qualifications: Graduate degree from an ALA-accredited library and information science program, or equivalent (second Master degree required for tenure); experience with managing access issues associated with electronic resources; knowledge and understanding of electronic publishing; working knowledge of bibliographic and metadata tools (e.g., MARC, OCLC); demonstrated ability to manage technical projects; demonstrated commitment to customer service and collaborative approaches; ability to work independently, managing a complex workload in an on time, effective manner with minimum supervision; strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills; ability to work well as part of a team; ability to work evenings and weekends; firm commitment to the Library's Statement of Objectives and College Mission.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience with Innovative Interfaces Inc. and Serials Solutions products; developing / maintaining e-resource management tools and serial records; Demonstrated experience using database management programs (e.g., Microsoft Access); knowledge of trends in resource connectivity (e.g., XML) and OpenSource.
